It has been ages since I went to my last vintage fair. In fact, it has probably been close to two years! I used to go to one at least every month, so when I received an email from Pop Up Vintage Fairs London, that there would be a big antique fair on at Alexandra Palace – or “Ally Pally” as locals call it – this Sunday, I figured I would have to go check it out!
Having no clue where Alexandra Palace was – or how to get to it – was slightly off-putting, however it was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in anything from antique furniture, to jewellery to vintage fashion. I short; it is Vintage Mecca!
After travelling a good 45 minutes from Camden Town, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ally Pally is located on a hillside, so the view of the city was pretty spectacular!
Normally the vintage fairs I have visited would be focused on fashion and a tiny bit of accessories, but I was happily surprised to find a great variety of both fine jewellery and “junk” jewellery. Personally I much prefer fine jewellery – especially men’s jewellery:
But hey, sometimes us girls just need a nice big statement piece!
Particularly these snake bracelets caught my attention! If it wasn’t because I already have a really cool emerald green snake bracelet from the Anna Del Russo for H&M collection, I would definitely have bought one of these bad boys.
Other cool things include funny homeware pieces, such as this mega scary ape:
It looks like something straight out of a horror movie – yikes!
Or how about this adorable record player from the 60’s?
Elegant crystal perfume bottles…
Exciting interior pieces from the 20’s and 70’s were everywhere, but particularly the colours, shapes and textures of the following items caught my attention:
As to be expected, there was a great variety of bags, vanity cases and compacts:
Lately, vanity cases have fascinated me, and after passing on the opportunity of a particularly unique piece at Covent Garden a month’s time ago, I have been looking every where for the perfect vanity case! Despite of there being many beautiful pieces at Ally Pally, none of them were quite right, and most of them were quite small. However, the search goes on…
Check out this funky compact; furry and all!
Despite of being a “poor student” I had allowed myself to buy one thing, if it was really special, and after 3 hours of searching, I finally found it:
An antique men’s gold ring with a tiny diamond. It’s absolutely fabulous, and I can’t wait to wear it, once it’s been resized!
